Bonita. Do not be afraid. I have had three urologists for kidney stones. Unfortunately the first one passed away, the second one was old and retired and I have found a third one who is tops! However, I can honestly say, that all three were extremely nice , and compassionate when it came to my situation. Urologists I have noticed take great concern in how you feel when you visit them. ie: they are concerned if you are in pain, and will manage the pain with prescriptions first, and if needed surgery. I have had both with my condition. Maybe it is just me, but the three I have had the privilege to meet were not snotty,rude or made you feel like a piece of shit. The experiences I have had with my urologists have all been positive. Again, I stress that they are very concerned with the pain you may be experiencing,and put a premium on either reducing or abolishing whatever pain you may be experiencing Do not be afraid, and hope for the best. I hope you meet a doctor like the three I have have had the honor to treat me. Word to the wise, if the doctor is an asshole, just seek out another urologist. You are bound to meet a great man/woman that will treat you right. So don't be afraid if you come across one or two assholes. Remember there are assholes in every profession. Lawyers, doctors, fire fighters, police officers, pharmacists, garbage men, Dunkin Donuts employees etc….Just be brave and give the doctor the benefit of the doubt.
I got to see a urologist Thursday. And don't know what to expect.

Urology is one of the best medical speciality, it's surgery plus clinical, it's open surgery, laparoscopy, robotic, endoscopy, focal therapies. It's so wide. It's also very underrated among medical students.
